When Should You Book Family Photos?

Short answer: you don't need to book months ahead with me.

A normal family session? Two days' notice is usually plenty. Got a specific fall idea or special setup in mind? Give me about a week. Need your photos for Christmas cards or gifts? Get your session done by December 10.

And if you're in a pinch, I'll work with whatever availability is open. Sometimes even one day's notice is enough.

How Far in Advance Should You Book Family Photos?

Booking early with me isn't about hitting some magic two or three month window. It's about giving us enough time to plan the session you actually want.

Two days is normally enough for a standard family session. That's enough time to talk through the details, plan what you want, and get you on the calendar.

If you have something more specific in mind, such as a certain outfit theme, location idea, or particular look, a little more lead time helps. That's where a week comes in handy.

The one thing that can catch you off guard is the date itself. I don't require months of notice, but a specific Saturday or time can still already be taken.

If you know the date you want, there's no reason to wait just because you technically could.

When to Book Family Photos for Fall and the Holidays

Fall Family Sessions

If your family has a specific fall idea in mind, such as coordinated outfits, a particular concept, or a special setup, about a week of notice gives us time to get it right.

You don't have to reserve your fall session in July or August with me. If you have a specific fall concept or setup in mind, about a week of notice is usually enough.

Christmas Cards and Gifts

If you need your portraits for Christmas cards or gifts, plan to have your session photographed no later than December 10.

That date matters more than any generic rule about booking months ahead.

December 10 is my recommended cutoff when you need the portraits for Christmas cards or gifts. That gives you time to receive your finished portraits and handle whatever you plan to do with them before Christmas.

Do Large Families Need to Book Earlier?

Not necessarily.

A bigger family doesn't mean you need to plan months ahead.

The real challenge with a large family isn't my calendar. It's yours.

Getting everyone available on the same day and at the same time is usually the hardest part.

Once your family agrees on a date, check my availability and go from there.

If there's only one date that works for everybody, reaching out earlier gives you a better chance of getting that exact date.

But the size of the family itself doesn't create a special early-booking requirement.

What If You Have a Specific Location or Session Idea?

Some family sessions are simple. Others need a little more planning.

A week of lead time helps when you need to:

• Prepare a special setup

• Coordinate a specific concept or theme

• Plan around a particular location

• Work through unusual session details

If none of that applies to you, don't worry about it. A straightforward family session doesn't need a lot of extra runway.

Military Families Can Book Around Their Schedule

When Should You Book Family Photos?

If you're a military family around Killeen and Fort Cavazos, you don't have to book months in advance just because that's common advice online.

If you know when everyone is going to be available, check my availability, even if that's close to the date you want.

If I have an opening, we can work with the time you actually have.

The important thing is not assuming you're already too late just because you couldn't plan several months ahead.

What If You Have Young Kids?

Having young kids doesn't mean you need to book months early.

What actually helps is choosing a date and time that works with your family's real schedule instead of waiting until only a few openings are left.

Booking a little earlier can give you more choices. But if the day that works for your family is

coming up quickly, still ask.

Does Studio or Outdoor Photography Change How Early You Should Book?

Studio: Weather isn't part of the equation, so that's one less thing we need to plan around.

Outdoor: There's a little more to coordinate, including the location, weather, daylight, and the time that works best for your family.

Even so, that doesn't automatically mean you need months of advance notice with me.

If you have a very specific outdoor location, concept, or date in mind, reaching out earlier gives us more room to plan.

Can You Book Family Photos at the Last Minute?

Yes.

If I have availability, I'll take a family session with as little as one day's notice.

Last-minute booking works best when:

• You're flexible about the available time

• You don't need an elaborate setup

• You're ready to move quickly on the session details

This doesn't mean you should always wait until the last minute.

It just means you're not automatically too late because you didn't book months ago.

If tomorrow is the only day everybody is free, ask. If I have the opening, we can make it work.
